A Banana, a Museum, and a Crime? A visitor at a museum in France ate an artwork that consisted of a banana attached to a wall with duct tape. The event quickly became international news and raised an interesting question: was this simply a joke, or was it actually a crime?  The artwork, created by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, was on display at the Pompidou Center in the French city of Metz. During the exhibition, a visitor bit the banana, which is worth millions of dollars.  The museum said the surveillance team intervened quickly and calmly according to internal procedures.According to the museum the incident did not alter the integrity of the work at all, and it was reinstalled minutes later.They also said since the fruit is perishable, it is regularly replaced according to the artist's instructions  Although the visitor did not break into the museum or use violence, he intentionally removed and ate part of an artwork.
