Chronicle Satoshi Kon

Satoshi Kon was born on October 12, 1963 in Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan and died on August 24, 2010, in Tokyo. He was an anime director and mangaka, he was known for his work in movies like Perfect Blue, Paprika, Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers. His films are characterized by phycological complex, realistic characters, stage designs and the mixture of reality and dreams.

He studied in secondary school Hokkaido Kushiro Koryo, while he was there, he aspired to become an animator. After finishing school, he entered university in 1982 to study graphic Design at Musashino Art University.

In college, he made his debut as a mangaka with the short manga Toriko in 1984. In 1987 Kon wrote the one-volume manga Kaikisen and the script for Katsuhiro Otomo's live-action film World Apartment Horror.

In 1991 was the first time Kon worked as an animator and layout artist for the animated film Roujin Z. In 1995, Kon got a job as the scriptwriter, layout artist and art director of the short film Magnetic Rose, the first of three short films in Katsuhiro Otomo's omnibus Memories. Afterward his work would be recognized by the theme of the blending of fantasy and reality.

In 1997, Kon began work on his directorial debut Perfect Blue, a suspense story centered around a pop idol, based on Yoshikazu Takeuchi's novel of the same name, it was the first film by Kon to be produced by Madhouse. In 2002, he worked in his second film Millennium Actress, the film centers around a retired actress who mysteriously withdraws from the public eye at the peak of her career. In 2003 Tokyo Godfathers eas announce, his third project. The film centers on a trio of homeless people in Tokyo who discover a baby on Christmas Eve and try to search for her parents. 

In 2006, Paprika was announced, the story centers on a new form of psychotherapy that utilizes dream analysis to treat mental patients. The film was highly successful and earned several film awards.  This movie, like Kon's previous works, focuses on the synergy of dreams and reality.

After, he began to work in his next movie The Dream Machine, but in 2010 he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, he decided to retire and stayed his last days at home. He died on August 24, 2010 at 46 years old.
